The greatest ever run chase
New Zealand hunted down a mammoth 332 runs to clinch the remaining one day game of the Chappell Hadlee series in Christchurch tonight.
This was the highest ever total chased successfully in an ODI in the history of the 50 over version of the game.
A consolation game that showed how close the Black Caps could [...]

Better script, same show!
It was a thrilling finish to today’s second ODI at the ‘Cake Tin’ in Wellington between Australia and a resurgent Black Caps.
The Kiwi’s turned up, cleaned the cobwebs from their mental cupboards, and gave the run chase a worthy effort.
The difference between the sides today was a tiny crack compared to the mighty chasm [...]

Cairns back!
Chris Cairns has had a none too surprising recall bestowed upon him for the upcoming Chappell Hadlee series against Australia.
Despite John Bracewell demanding that Cairns show a commitment to playing regular domestic cricket, Cairns has been recalled following the disasterous tour of South Africa, before the NZ domestic season is properly underway.
There is [...]

Dressable Stephen Fleming paper doll
Stumbled upon this today, made me smile, not least because it’s an Aussie fan of NZ Cricket (a rare thing indeed)!
Click here to see the site, and more designs (including a rather fetching evening gown for Stephen Fleming)

Recall after backfire?
I wrote something a while back on the quite dignified response Chris Cairns showed when John Bracewell dropped him for the South Africa tour. I thought Cairns showed a lot of humility and respect for Bracewell in his comments to the media and looked inward to the solution to a potential recall rather than [...]

NZ in SA - yawn!
What a difference 18 months can make. On March 2nd 2004 at Napier, New Zealand wrapped up a comprehensive thrashing of SA by 5 ODI’s to 1. Last night in Port Elizabeth South Africa had already won the 5 match series by winning the third game of this series.
The pitches from what I have [...]

A duck in blue Lycra shorts
There’s something infinitely dodgy about watching New Zealand in South Africa in this current one day series, not least of which is the fact that every boundary is celebrated by a cartoon duck appearing on the screen. Perhaps I’m missing the obvious connection. A duck for a boundary? The relevance (if any) is lost [...]

Dodgy commentary and dancing girls in Twenty20
South Africa’s most exciting contribution to the Twenty20 game today was the introduction of green bikini clad dancing girls to jive in accompaniment to every boundary and wicket. Someone must have complained that their outfits were too skimpy as they came out in the second innings with paint sprayed over their midriffs.
The home [...]
