The sacrificial lambs wool could be made of Hair
England vs Pakistan, 4th Test, The Oval 2006
Bob Woolmer has made a move that could see Darryl Hair coming out of all this smelling of poo, by laying his cards on the table and offering the ICC an escape route from the shambles created at the Oval.
Woolmer has said that the team would accept a charge of bringing the game into disrepute provided the ICC drop the charges of ball tampering. This is a very smart move for a number of reasons.
Primarily it demonstrates to the watching world the reasonableness of Pakistan. It signals that the team have no issue being held accountable for their part in the debacle. At the same time, it is a strengthening of their position that no ball tampering occurred.
Woolmer though is holding on to his dove of peace with a steel fist, by failing to remove the threat of pulling out of the ODI series if Inzamam’s penalty is too harsh.
The ball is now in the court of the ICC who in effect have been offered a deal.
If they take the deal however, the loser is Darryl Hair. Without a conviction for Inzy on the tampering charges, Hair’s actions on the field will look more and more inappropriate, and the ICC will, for the sake of the bigger picture, leave him out to dry.
Hair’s pride would likely lead him to subsequently resign if the deal pans out this way and Woolmer knows it.
Expect a counter-move from big Darryl to hit the newstands before Friday.

Get ready to be screwed on Friday by another Aussie, Hitler’s mate Malcom Speed. After all country does matter. Had it not ben Speed in the office, Hair would have been long gone from the international scene, forget the so called elite pannel. Do we need to redefine the word elite? Hard to imagine Hair the hitler and the word elite being used in the same breath. Farce, disgust, bigot, retard, Prejudice and racist are the few words that describes HAIR THE HITLER appropriately

like your analysis of the Oval debacle - perhaps you could help answer “.. if you’re deliberately allowed to polish only one side of the ball, why are you not allowed to neglect the other side?” at http://www.leftwrites.net/2006/08/23/sticky-wicket/

Hey Like your level-headed neutral analysis. I think this is going to be real great viewing how this drama unfolds.

[...] The decision by Malcolm Speed to release Hair’s correspondence before the hearing has nothing to do with transparency and everything to do with strategy. Suddenly OJ’s hand fits the glove. I predicted that the ICC would leave Hair out to dry following the nugget of a deal offered by Woolmer, but never did I imagine that they would do so in such spectacular circumstances. [...]
