Burning down the house
I read recently that a poor old cricket club somewhere in Burnley has had its pavilion vandalised for the third time in six months.
Sadly, my own cricket club suffered the same fate and had its modest pavilion burnt to the ground after we left the UK for New Zealand. I couldn’t quite believe the news when I heard.
I haven’t heard of football or rugby clubs being subjected to similar mindless acts of yobbishness, and wonder whether it is something about cricket in particular that the hooligans find so distasteful, that they have to resort to such stupid acts of mindlessness.

2 reasons that could be are:
1. Once class-system was quite prevalent in British society and games like cricket, golf, polo, were considered the games of the rich or upper class people. So, if such idea that cricket is not a game for the poor or middle class exists, then certain people might take such revenge against such symbols of high class; and cricket clubs are easy targes.
2. Perhpas people don’t consider cricket and thus cricketers being physicals (like footballers or rugby players are considered) or active; thus they do such things with the idea that cricket-official/cricketers won’t come against them.
