Buttony Things

A growing slur?

There is a sad irony in the fact that South Africa are threatening to boycott tours to Australia. South Africa have been back in international cricket for just less than 15 years after an exile enforced because of their government’s policy of institutional racism.

Now that they are back in international cricket, and apartheid has been consigned to the history books, how sad that the racists outside of South Africa, who target black players with racial insults could cause the team to avoid travelling.

I don’t think it’s ever going to come to that stage, really. South Africa can’t afford to boycott test tours to Australia, not the least under ICC’s current laws, far too much money at stake.

I agree Zai, sad though that the issue exists at all.

It is sad that there are idiots out there who bring this about, but I think the whole affair is a bit harsh on the Aussies. I have been to quite a few matches around the World, and at every one, there are one or two who think it is funny to yell racist taunts. They are of all nationalities, and pretty much disliked by the majority everywhere. It is them that should be banned, not the rest, who are normal and there to enjoy the cricket rather than yell abuse.
