Those that can-do, those that can’t-teach

It’s an old adage but the best coaches are not necessarily always the best ex-players. Some of the best managers in football have had pretty average playing careers and there have been some spectacular flops in high profile players screwing up as managers. (Think Paul Gascoigne – Kettering)
Anyway, with Allan Donald applying for the [...]

No England coverage

I’ve realised that I’m unlikley to see any live England cricket action until the ICC Champions Trophy in October.
In fact with India pulling out of the NZ tour, the only decent cricket we’re likely to get on NZ Sky TV will involve the Australians.
Pennance I suppose for winning the Ashes.

All for my benefit

I grew up on football stories. My dad would tell tales of the shenanigans, politics and parties football had to offer. His brother played for Sunderland and I would hear accounts of the trials and tribulations of players trying to organise benefit matches or testimonials which seemed to be all that a professional footballer [...]

The Grudge

Debut boy linked to creepy movie star

Is it just me, or does the South African debutant Johannes van der Wath, look like he is the son of Vincent Schiavelli?
Vincent, in case you don’t know, is an actor, perhaps best known for his portrayal of a disturbed subway spirit in the film “Ghost”.

Back in October, I wrote a post entitled Petulant Ponting and it would seem as though both his own antics and those of the Australian team are attracting the attention of a growing number of Australians.
Lou Rowan [...]

West Indies join snub club

The West Indies have cancelled the scheduled hosting of Australia in 2007 stating that they would prefer not to have back to back series to contend with.
With India pulling out from New Zealand, and Zimbabwe declaring itself unfit for test cricket, the calendar of forthcoming competitions has been well and truly shaken up over [...]

ICC intervene at last in Zimbabwe

Finally, it looks as though the ICC have had some measurable influence over the fiasco that is Zimbabwe cricket.

These three chaps got together and the outcome was that Zimbabwe have ’self imposed’ a Test ban on themselves.
It’s a start I suppose.
