Woeful start to Pakistan tour

Paul Collingwood has a chance to contribute to the fulfilment of his own prediction of a 3-0 England whitewash. With all around him falling like shafts of wheat in harvest season he stands perched on 1 not out at the close of play in the warm up match in Rawalpindi.

Say what you like about the importance of warm up matches but in anybody’s book this goes down, as a total disaster and is serving to give the Pakistani’s concrete hope that a series victory will be in the offing.

The reputation England carried to Pakistan from the Ashes, is now as devalued as the Zimbabwean dollar and the psychological advantage must surely be resting with the home side.

Defeats in warm up matches are not exactly rare for touring sides, but anihilations are scary things, and it will take a minor miracle for anything worthwhile to be salavaged from this game.

It’s easy to over react when your side loses 6 wickets for less then 60 two times in as many days! But England are playing cricket after a while - they must be rusty. I definitely expect them to perform much better in the tests and in fact I still very much fancy the chances of the Patron’s XI losing this match - if 16 wickets fell in a day’s play, you can’t rule out another collapse for Patron’s XI tomorrow, can you? England will probably have to get at least about 150 runs on the board for that to happen. But yeah, it will still be called minor miracle.
