Multan, the new Lords?

I went to bed last night safe in the knowledge that England would win the first test. A modest total to get. Plenty of batting to come. All the signs were good.

I woke up this morning and found out they had lost in a narrow defeat.

One of the defining qualities of a team of champions is the ability to win matches that could go either way. To force a result when the odds are against you. To rise to the occasion. To win when failure looks likely.

As this match ebbed and flowed, I was always fairly certain England would win. Now that they have lost I am not too sure what to think.

- that descibes Pakistan’s performance in this test perfectly.

England are defintiely not champions yet… Pakistan and India on home turf will test them for a few years yet

I guess I should have added the word ‘consistently’ to my earlier description

When it comes down to it, it was just bad execution by England. Also chasing anything over 150 in the 4th inning is not automatic. Finally, Pakistan made vital breakthroughs at vital times - it was either good captaincy/bowling, bad batting or luck - possibly all three. Looking forward to Round 2!
