Damien Martyn has been axed from the test sqaud for the Super Series, despite keeping his place in the one day squad.

Is Martyn unlucky?. He got a couple of howlers of decisions in the Ashes series that cut his series average down and was certainly not alone in performing below expectations.

What interests me about his dumping is the fact he has kept his one day place. The Australian selectors have in recen times used the one-day squad as a precursor to looming changes in the test side, but this time it would seem they have taken a different approach with Martyn at least.

Announced in the one day squad is also the intent for Australia to play with only 5 specialist batsmen with the inclusion of Shane Watson as an allrounder a divergence from recent years.
