It was…….interesting

The 3 Super Series ODI’s are out of the way and the best adjective I can come up with to describe them is ‘interesting’.

There was a distant and numb fascination in watching this series but like an aunt who’s kisses you loathe, I had to turn up to see her it but not because I love her. The only time I got excited was when Aleem Dar called for the third umpire on an LBW.

If I were an Australian (said in a whisper) then perhaps I would be more viscerally involved with the matches, but I doubt even then that the sweet tasting beef of victory would last much longer than the time it took to wash the dishes. From the middle of Game 2 and perhaps earlier the World XI had convinced themselves that losing didn’t matter and that, above all took any edge off the series. For the Australians winning was everything and ultimately that’s what separated the sides. The World talent pool was swimming with too many classy fish for it to be anything else.

I’ll watch the 6 day test, because it’s a game of cricket and I have to hog the remote control at any opportunity, but I expect the same empty feeling to reside at its completion.

My wife with her loathing of all things cricket managed to sum this series up better than I possibly could;

“So do they just make these matches up when they feel like it?”
