Exorcising Demons
If Game 1, was all about the Australian team combining as a unit to exorcise the Ashes, then the Game 2 exorcisms have been a far more individual affair.
Gilchrist has vanquished Flintoff to realise that a big score waits on the other side of a Freddie spell. Martyn went toe to toe with the little girl with the spinning head who smells of bad decisions to slice his way past Murali and a first ball duck to show the class that was always behind a couple of dodgy calls.
Ponting reasserted his captaincy authority and showed independent tactical nouse to dismiss Gayle.
And the fielding demons that plagued the Ashes have been lined up against the wall and giving a good old fashioned kicking. Catches held and run outs aplenty, Situation Normal – All Fired Up.
Each pivotal moment of this game was celebrated by the Aussies with more vigour than the last. Like a Rottweiller taking revenge on a poodle after being mauled by a Doberman the Australian team are revelling in pounding the weaker side.
Expect more of the same on Sunday.

Hey
Fantastic innings by Gilchrist but do you think that the lack of reverse swing (or swing of any kind really) at the Dome was a big factor in tilting the balance of the Gilly-Freddie battle ? Not that I am trying to belittle his great innings anyway - just a question haunting me and many fans.

I’m sure it played a part, (and it’s a worry for England going to Pakistan without Jones that their swing team is missing on of the two best exponents of reverse England have.) Gilly also didn’t have the pressure of the Ashes on his shoulders, which would have helped.
