Bob Woolmer endorses Hawkeye

Bob Woolmer has written an excellent piece on the technology debate running on wicket-to-wicket.

He makes the point that Hawkeye would bring a consistency to LBW decisions that is currrently lacking. I hope his views (and specifically his suggestion to host a tournament with all the tech toys being used) gain momentum within the ICC.

The headline is key to this article as well. “Improve the game!”, and I believe it genuinely would. But then I’ve been bleating on about this for a while.

Hack Eye is IMHO a flawed technology … I don’t have a lot of time for it. I’m firmly, to this date, in the romantic/dyed-in-the-wool Luddite camp … very much leaning towards Duncan Fletcher’s appeal against an appeal idea …although the idea the you could challenge an umpire (a character in the game I keep in very high respects) does sound a bit strange - sounds better then Hawk Eye though, I’m not in favor of it at all. It’s the worst thing that happened to cricket broadcasting after Arun Lal’s commentary.

I can’t argue that Hawkeye is perfect, by definition the technology is predicting an event that does not happen (ball hitting stumps) but I am convinced the technology exists to calculate the likelihood better than human judgement as an aid to the umpires that I too hold in high regard.

Great article. I am just sad I dont know how to reply properly, though, since I want to show my appreciation like many other.
