There’s something infinitely dodgy about watching New Zealand in South Africa in this current one day series, not least of which is the fact that every boundary is celebrated by a cartoon duck appearing on the screen. Perhaps I’m missing the obvious connection. A duck for a boundary? The relevance (if any) is lost on me.

My viewing pleasure has been marred by a raft of hideously dire commentary spearheaded by Jeremy Coney who has the vocal melodrama of a stuffed panda. His female colleague Kas, churns out commentary nuggets like “He loves it big and he loves it big often” to which I stare at the screen genuinely perplexed.

The game deserved a better commentary team with the Proteas winning with only 3 balls to spare.
