5 days to go and blow me I’m excited

In spite of myself I can’t wait for the first Super Series ODI.
Whether out of frustration that the recent headlines have been stolen for largely ancilliary matters or whether post Ashes withdrawal is finally starting to kick in I don’t know.
Whatever the cause, I’m counting down the days. Never thought I’d see [...]

Media ban? What media ban?

The way the review committee worded their advice about Chappell, Ganguly or for that matter anyone talking to the media, I am surprised to see Ganguly climbing in with the ‘I told you so” already.
“In a way I feel I have been vindicated because I hadn’t done anything wrong,”
Isn’t that as good as saying [...]

Supers get tech upgrade

Umpires will be allowed to consult the third umpire for all decisions in next months Super Series.
I spotted this the other night and then noticed that Mike mentioned he was surprised nobody was discussing it. I’m surprised too. Unless the story’s misleading isn’t this rather significant?
It seems the ICC have gone and snuck this [...]

Ponting…potentially arse biting quotes

Ricky Ponting has been demonstrating a touch more confidence in front of notepads and cameras than he showed on English squares.
“I’ve been looking forward to this for a long time” on the Super Series
“I’ll always support John” on the soon to be out of contract Buchanan
“Let’s not forget we’re the No.1 ranked [...]

He’s Inzy..he’s Outzy..he shakes it all Aboutzy.

Inzamam’s inclusion in the Super Series ‘fiesta’ (drum roll please) is about as structured as his running between the wickets. His petulance has been hidden behind other more high profile tantrums but if I have this right…
He was included in the first big squad of pretty much everyone who could walk who wasn’t an [...]

Chappell-Ganguly Meeting

A scandalous farce. And in the words of Forrest Gump, “that’s about all I have to say on thaaat”

Dropping reveals character and organisational strength

Chris Cairns has responded positively to his axing form the NZ one day touring squad to South Africa. The decision to drop him was I believe the right one, and was the eventual consequence of Cairns’s gamble to restrict both his domestic and international cricket to only the limited overs form of the game, [...]

Bracewell signals end for Cairns

Within the last thirty minutes I’ve heard two different versions of John Bracewell’s decision to drop Chris Cairns from the New Zealand ODI squad to tour South Africa next month.
